In Les Îles de Lérins, Brigitte Cazenave paints a secret cove of clear turquoise water, white rocks and dense umbrella pines under a soft summer sky. The crumpled paper surface adds texture to the water and foliage, almost like the canvas itself.
Fresh and serene, it is lovely in a bathroom, bedroom or anywhere you want the feeling of a swim in the sea.
The crumpled paper technique
Each panel is printed on recycled paper and then crumpled and worked by hand, giving it a soft, textured, almost fabric-like surface – so no two pieces are exactly alike. A limited edition made in France.
How to hang
Delivered rolled in a cardboard tube. Hang it raw with pins or tacks for a relaxed, studio feel, add a pair of wooden hanging battens, or have it mounted or framed.
About the artist
Brigitte Cazenave began painting in oils in 1983 after leaving a career in pharmacy for a new life in Australia. Trained in traditional, old-master techniques, she paints flowers, still lifes and landscapes with a light, luminous touch – and famously without corrections, letting colour and lightness lead.
